Zaika India Ka...

I came across this video - Mangalore food was featured on "Zaika India Ka" - an NDTV program. Here is the link.
Man, Vinod Dua looks same as he looked back in my High school days!! Some people just don't get old! :)
My only complaint is...he didn't say anything about Mangalore Goli Bajji !! If you are from Mangalore, you know how popular the snack is! :)

Wow..Yummy. In the link blogger was referring to "Mitra Samaj" restaurant (in Udupi) which is very famous for "Goli Baje" . In Bangalore/Mysore side (also in Bay Area) for some reason they call this as "Mysore Bajji" !!

Totally agree infact they missed a lot more than the famous Goli bajji.
The same case with HOMP(highway on my plate). They just missed out the best joints.
Looks like the Rambhavan owners have some sort of connection with NDTV, All the foodies end up on that place.
The variety is there but the taste and quality went to the dogs around 12 years ago.
People don't have an alternative and/or their taste buds are defunct. Wonder why they eat there.
Coming back to the show they projected mangalore totally wrong.
They start the show by showing some Kannada movie posters.
Typical mangaloreans do not watch Kannada movies.(because they suck so bad and educated people could never bear through the 3 hours of nonsense).
Then the idiotic, Rambhavan owner was not even able to explain the the Mudde. Even Vinod Dua did not do his homework.
Basically Mudde(and Kottige) were the traditional way of making Idlis. Just like banana leaves were used instead of plates. These leaves were used instead of the idli bowls.
Suprisingly He starts the show with a pooja in the Hanuman Temple, but totally misses out the Hanuman Restaurant, which has better Sweet idli and food that Ram Bhavan.
Basically Vinod Dua is just talking off his @ss describing the dishes. Only the north Indians might be impressed.
He missed out Taj Mahal(Which has a cult following) even though I am not a fan, but when you talk of mangalore you have to mention the sheera(soji halva) and the coffee Which many mangloreans die.
He also forgot the Woodlands hotel and some small uknown joints that serve excellent food. He also forgot the Bajeel. I am glad he covered the juice shop that I visit almost daily when I am in mangalore.
He covered some cheap non-veg joint. They serve waste products like chicken head.
Too bad. Rest of India might wonder there is nothing to eat in Mangalore.
I want to start my own show. In entire south Kanara we may need atleast 15 episodes to cover all the food.
